Jakob Bänsch, Trumpet | Jannis Sicker, Guitar | Felix Hauptmann, Rhode & Synthesize | Oliver Lutz, Electric Bass | Leo Asal, Drumset
The 23-year-old trumpeter and composer Jakob Bänsch is one of the most outstanding newcomers on the European jazz scene. In 2024, he was awarded the German Jazz Prize for his debut album „Opening“. He has already collaborated with renowned musicians such as Joachim Kühn, Benny Greb, Nathan East, Michael Abene, and the WDR Big Band.
With his new quintet, Bänsch consistently takes his distinctive sound a step further: what initially emerged from the combination of modern acoustic jazz and classical music now opens up into electronic soundscapes. The five musicians move fluidly through Bänsch’s compositions, which might evoke Weather Report in one moment, the orchestral works of Maurice Ravel in another, or the vast, atmospheric soundscapes of ambient music.
By combining clear structures with free improvisation, the quintet creates immersive atmospheres and a highly distinctive sound that moves between acoustic virtuosity, orchestral breadth, and atmospheric depth.
