Jahari Stampley Soul Family Trio

jazz contemporary

Led by pianist, composer, producer and educator Jahari Stampley, the Jahari Stampley Trio brings together three distinctive musical voices in a project rooted in virtuosity, imagination and deep personal connection.

Winner of the 2023 Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Piano Competition, recipient of the 2023 Luminarts Fellowship and a 2023 Chicago Symphony Orchestra honoree, Jahari Stampley is rapidly emerging as one of the most innovative young artists in the jazz piano world. Having performed at many of the world’s most prestigious venues before the age of 22, he has already built an international reputation as a prolific pianist and composer with a sound that moves freely between jazz, gospel, classical color, hip-hop and R&B.

For this trio project, Jahari is joined by D-Erania Stampley, his mother and a highly expressive musician from Chicago. Her album Language of the Heart was recognized by the 59th Grammy Awards Committee across seven ballot categories and praised by Chicago Jazz Magazine for its balance of accessibility, imagination and originality. Her presence brings a powerful intergenerational dimension to the trio: a musical dialogue shaped by family, memory, intuition and shared artistic language.

Completing the ensemble is Miguel Russell, a drummer and producer from South Florida whose musical path began almost as soon as he could walk. Born in the Bronx, New York City, Russell started playing drums at the age of two, entered the Harlem School of the Arts at four, and began his professional career at just five years old. Before turning 21, he had already performed with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Nestor Torres, Paquito D’Rivera, Pedro Martinez, Candido Camero, Stefon Harris, Stacey Dillard and Dayna Stephens.

Together, the Jahari Stampley Trio creates music that is rhythmically fearless, emotionally open and vividly contemporary. The project combines Jahari’s luminous pianism and compositional vision with D-Erania Stampley’s soulful artistry and Miguel Russell’s dynamic, deeply rooted drumming. The result is a trio sound full of movement, warmth and discovery — modern jazz with a strong heartbeat, a family spirit and a fearless sense of possibility.
