Out of the close musical dialogue within the band AKI, a new duo has emerged > vocalist Lucia Cadotsch and pianist Jozef Dumoulin distil their collaboration into an intimate and focused format. At the centre stands the interplay between voice and piano, subtle, attentive and rich in detail.
The duo invites the listener into a dreamscape of lyrical explorations, unfolding a musical world of emotional depth and quiet intensity. Drawing from Cadotsch’s personal songbook, her repertoire of recent years and newly written material, the music exists comfortably in the connected space between song and improvisation. What unfolds is a dialogue between two autonomous voices who listen deeply to one another and allow space to shape the music. Composition and improvisation merge seamlessly, creating an intimate environment.
The duo premiered in 2024 at the ZEIT event for the Helmut Schmidt Future Prize and appears this year at the Cologne Philharmonic with Lucia Cadotsch AKI.
With her distinctive vocal style and her innovative band projects such as SPEAK LOW, LIUN + The Science Fiction Band and AKI, Lucia Cadotsch is among the defining voices of her generation. For over twenty years, her musical universe has continued to grow and is documented on thirteen albums to date. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Swiss Music Prize, the German Jazz Prize and the ECHO Jazz.
The Belgian pianist Jozef Dumoulin has been regarded as one of Europe’s most important voices on his instrument. His music has been described as `dreams about music and music about dreams`. What he creates through his playing collaborates perfectly with Cadotsch’s vision, manifesting a world which both looks inward and outward, towards past and future.
