Clarissa Bevilacqua, violin | Martina Consonni, piano
The story of the program is about the French cultural influence in different styles and times. In the first half we have Mozart K 304, a sonata which was written in Paris, and Prokofiev second sonata, who was heavily influenced by French ballet and ideals. Amy Beach’s Romance comes from the romantic movement that was sweeping across Paris due to Franck’s school in the late 1800s and Debussy’s sonata marks the end of the First World War and thus the beginning of globalization and industrialization - which impacted music starting all the way in Franz Waxman’s America.
