Original works by American composers meet original compositions, arrangements and pianistic ‘remixes’: With TRANCEFORMER, Kai Schumacher relies entirely on the concert grand piano as a fully analogue synthesiser and creates unusual soundscapes between drum machine and ‘wall of sound’ on what is probably the most classical of all instruments.
Permanent change becomes a musical constant, the inside of the grand piano a laboratory of ‘weird sounds’. With or without preparations: Schumacher plays a game with acoustic perception. Motifs circle around each other, shift against each other, fall into each other. The music remains in constant transformation, becomes fluid, develops its temporary form only in the subjective ears of the listener. In doing so, it draws a line to the psychedelic pull of American minimal music, whose protagonists paved the way for electronic club culture with their patterns and loops.
