The Notos Quartet is one of the most distinguished piano quartets on the international chamber music scene. Since its foundation in 2007, the award-winning ensemble has captivated audiences with its “virtuosic brilliance and technical perfection”, combined with an exceptional sense of balance and an intensely collaborative approach to music-making.
At the heart of the quartet’s artistic profile is the combination of the great masterpieces of the piano quartet repertoire with rarely performed and rediscovered works, alongside contemporary music. Numerous works have been written especially for the Notos Quartet and premiered by the ensemble, including compositions by Beat Furrer, Bernhard Gander, Garth Knox and Bryce Dessner. Its acclaimed recordings have also helped bring forgotten repertoire to international attention, including world-premiere recordings of piano quartets by Béla Bartók and László Lajtha.
The Notos Quartet performs at leading concert halls and festivals across Europe and around the world, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Berliner Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall London, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Konzerthaus Vienna. In 2022, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Würth Prize by Jeunesses Musicales Germany.
In 2027, the Notos Quartet celebrates its 20th anniversary. For the 2027/28 season, the ensemble is developing programmes that reflect its distinctive artistic identity: celebrated masterpieces are brought into dialogue with musical discoveries and new works written especially for the quartet.
